Lalit Bhasin is an Indian Lawyer and currently, the President of The Bar Association of India, the President of Society of Indian Law Firms (SILF), the President of Chartered Institute of Arbitrators – India Chapter and President of Indian Law Foundation. He is also an Honorary Life Member of International Bar Association. Dr. Bhasin received the Plaque of Honour by the Prime Minister of India in 2002 and the National Law Day Award by the President of India 2007. He is currently based in New Delhi.

On the economic front the leadership of Prime Minister Modi has been significant. The way be current pandemic situation has impacted global economies and supply chains has been alarming but this adversity has presented India with unique opportunities. Modi government has taken effective steps so that India could emerge as an alternative to the existing global supply chain. This would considerably boost India’s economy. Prime Minister Modi has given a clarion call to make India self- reliant. Reducing imports and implementing the best practices to promote business and industrial growth have been given great impetus by Shri Narendra Nodi. Government has liberalised policies to keep pace with new developments.
The Prime Minister has recently identified key elements of a new regime for business that that involves lightening the compliance burden. The Prime Minister Is on record that permissions and licences should not require frequent renewals as this imposes a cost on businesses, especially, small and medium enterprises. Sectors such as hotels, restaurants, cement and leather have broad compliance requirement and need frequent renewal. This adds to the cost of doing business and erodes
competitiveness. This is a salutary initiative on the part of the Prime Minister and would have significant positive impact on ease of doing business.
It is evident that after fall in economic activity during April – June there is a marked and much needed recovery and the index for manufacturing has risen considerably in July and August. This is attributable to the initiatives of the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Nodi.
Both life and livelihood are crucial for survival in, during and post Covid and Prime Minister Modi has in a remarkable manner struck balance between Healthcare and economic after effects. Massive problems of migrant workforce has been successfully handled with cooperation of State governments. Steps have been taken to ensure that employees whether in public or private sector are not deprived of their livelihood. At the same time successive Iockdowns have succeeded in controlling the spread of Coronavirus.
The New Norms have been welcomed by business, industry and workforce. Workplaces have been made safe and secure from health and hygiene point of view. Work from Home has been encouraged and new technological tools are being developed.
I wish Shri Narendra Modi a long life so that he can continue to steer India to pinnacle of glory.
